The first Chiropractic adjustment occurred in 1895 and the first Chiropractic patient did not suffer from back or neck pain. The first series of Chiropractic adjustments focused on the restoration of a man’s hearing in Davenport, Iowa. The successful adjustments produced life changing results and created a ripple effect around the world. Today millions of patients pursue Chiropractic adjustment plans to receive a vast array of benefits attributed to optimal function in the spine and nervous system.

Chiropractic slowly evolved into becoming a significant presence in mainstream healthcare. The path to an evidence-based alternative to unnecessary drugs and surgeries came with a fair share of bumps and setbacks, specifically from the American Medical Association (AMA). One might expect an organization rooted in the premise of caring about peoples’ health to support scientific development intent on reducing the need for dangerous drugs and surgeries. History shows that the AMA was found guilty by the Supreme Court of trying to eliminate and destroy the Chiropractic profession. The AMA feared losing peoples’ financial dependence on medicine and manufactured smear campaign against Chiropractic which lasted for decades. The AMA had actually created a committee focused on spreading lies and hurting the reputations of Chiropractic professionals. Supreme Court Judge Susan Getzendanner described the conspiracy as, “a systematic, long-term wrongdoing with the long-term intent to destroy a licensed profession.”

The AMA proved temporarily successful in their quest to hinder the advancement of Chiropractic for a period of time. Many Americans were unjustly influenced by lies and rhetoric that hindered their potential to receive better health care through the benefits of Chiropractic care. The initiatives put forth by the AMA ultimately failed as continually developing evidence mounted which proved the overwhelming effectiveness of nervous system care.

Children and adults of all ages and walks of life experience tremendous benefits from Chiropractic care. A short list of Chiropractic based improvements includes better mobility, agility, balance, coordination, immunity, brain health, breathing, sleeping, digestion, and pain relief. Science and research amassed over the past five decades help detail the processes involved in millions of lives positively impacted by Chiropractic care. Many of those cases mirror those of the first Chiropractic patient and involve health benefits which do not initially seem related to the spine.

A study published in 2007 spent more than seven years studying a group of over 800 people. The study divided the subjects into two groups. One group used their medical doctor as their primary care provider (PCP) while the other group utilized a Chiropractor as their PCP. The results revealed that those who used the Chiropractor as their PCP experienced 60.2% less hospital admissions, spent 59.0% fewer days in hospitals, endured 62.0% fewer outpatient surgeries and procedures, and spent 85% less on pharmaceutical costs when compared to the group using a medical doctor as their PCP.

Subscribing to a routine which involves regular exercise and a proper diet comes with great benefits. Chiropractic also positively impacts overall health when the nervous system receives regular care. Imagine the astronomical effects and rewards of a society reflecting those numbers on a grand scale. Chiropractic pursues a world where individuals experience a quality of life full of vibrant health and free from the shackles of financial and physical dependence on medicinal agents which provide temporary relief rather than true healing. People want healthcare options that do not involve regimens of drugs and surgeries. Chiropractors provide the education and instruction needed to let millions of health-conscious people know that Chiropractic works.

A growing commonplace trend reveals more people than ever being treated for back or neck pain with opioids. An estimated 84% of people will experience at least one episode of back pain in their lifetime. 15% of that number will be given opioids. 5% will go on to become long-term opioid users.

Opioid drugs rank among the most commonly prescribed medications in the U.S. military. A 2014 study determined that over 40% of the U.S. infantry reported chronic pain (pain lasting at least 3 months) after deployment, and 15% reported opioid use in the month prior to the survey. Soldiers report greater rates of both chronic pain and opioid use after a combat deployment than does the civilian population. The astronomical rates of chronic pain and medicinal relief triggers rampant misuse of opioid pain medication, producing a significant health concern for military personnel. Prescription drug abuse spiked for military personnel at levels much higher than the civilian population over the past several years. Military servicemen and woman deserve a better approach to dealing with chronic pain and other serious health challenges than the ingestion of harmful and highly addictive opioids.

Chiropractic care represents one of the most effective interventions to address the cause of structural pain. Scientific research proves that Chiropractic care reduces the necessity of opioid drugs and lowers the rates and volume of addiction. More awareness and access to Chiropractic care proves vital to the health and future of the dedicated men and women in the military.

New research evaluated the results of Chiropractic care on veterans who used opioids. Over 14,000 veterans experienced at least one Chiropractic adjustment during the study. Some who received Chiropractic care also took opioids concurrently. One-third of veterans receiving Chiropractic services also held an opioid prescription. Results determined that those who received Chiropractic care reduced their intake of opioids after their first visit. The study suggested that regular Chiropractic care offered a treatment option which replaced opioid therapy for chronic pain conditions. The landmark study served as one of many evidentiary pools of data that reflected the benefits of Chiropractic care for both military personnel and civilians determined to find an alternate solution to opioid use for pain.

Study results combined with previous data and literature suggest that expanding access to Chiropractic care should be a key consideration for the Veterans Affairs. The latest evidence works congruently with the national initiative aimed to increase the use of research-based non-drug treatments for chronic pain. Chiropractic care serves as the most popular and effective non-drug intervention available to help people suffering from chronic pain. The men and women who sacrifice to keep America safe deserve a health care option which fights for them when they conclude their service to others.

The post Veterans Need Chiropractic – A Safe and Sane Solution to the Opioid Epidemic in the Military first appeared on Chiropractor Broken Arrow.

The current medical model of healthcare unintentionally creates an unreasonable and sometimes dangerous perception of healing. Due to the predominant recommendations and use of prescription drugs, people become accustomed to an expected norm of instant relief and healing. The fast-paced quick fix culture often breeds unrealistic expectations for pain relief and disease resolution. People begin to draw conclusions that healing should be almost instantaneous when genuine healing actually takes time.

Any process which involves adjusting the health and function of the body takes time. Losing weight, healing bones, and gaining muscle represent a few examples of sustained changes to the human organism that improve the body but take time to resolve. People occasionally become frustrated with a perceived lack of results in these areas despite awareness that the process takes time. The topic of pain relief escalates peoples’ impatience even more. Consumers ingest prescription medications and potent pharmaceuticals that numb the body to discomfort and pain in an instant. These pain killers shut down the brain’s pathway for pain and people tend to associate the numbness with healing. These methods of treating discomfort do not actually heal the body or bring about long-term resolution. People need to change their expectations for genuine healing and recovery and change the medical model that associates numbness with health.

Chiropractors represent one of many forms of natural health care practitioner which educate, treat, and communicate plans and procedures to help millions of people recover, heal, and experience a pain free life full of function and performance. One of the hardest lessons to communicate with patients revolves around fully understanding appropriate expectations regarding healing time. Treating the actual cause of pain and discomfort involves taking the time to genuinely repair and heal the body. The process takes time.

A study published in 2016 detailed the importance of time when utilizing a natural form of health care like Chiropractic. The research compared two groups of people. One group received adjustments and the other did not. Patients were evaluated after four weeks and again after twelve weeks. The primary measurements assessed included quality of life, reaction time, and positional sense of specific joints. The scientists wanted to know if the group that got adjusted increased their sense of awareness in specific areas and joints of their body. These measurements determined if Chiropractic adjustments facilitated a decrease in risks of falls and balance related issues. All aspects of measurements (quality of life, reaction time, joint position) improved significantly in the group which received regular Chiropractic adjustments.

The study reinforces endless research that proves the efficacy of Chiropractic adjustments in the treatment and healing of body structure, organs, and a number of other conditions. The issue most people contend with involves the fact that the process of healing and recovery take time. Isolated treatments and pill consumption do not provide the body with time needed to genuinely resolve an unwanted issue. Chiropractic adjustments improve the ability of the brain to receive and send messages to all parts of the body. Yet the body requires time to adjust, rebuild, and resolve. The aforementioned study showed that four weeks of Chiropractic care provided slight improvements to the measurable areas in the variable group. Week twelve recorded significant improvements in all measurable areas. Genuine healing takes time. Chiropractic care provides the most effective form of long-term care and healing for an endless list of painful and uncomfortable conditions, but restoration takes time.

Maximized healing involves knowledge and a commitment to healing. The benefits of Chiropractic extend far beyond pain relief when adjustments unlock the powerful capabilities of the human body. Chiropractic provides long term restoration; the healing is just a matter of time.

The post Healing Takes Time!

The opioid drug epidemic continues to negatively impact more and more people. Eighty percent of heroin users in America began their journey to addiction with a physician-prescribed opioid for pain relief. Opioid drugs kill tens of thousands of people every single year leaving kids, spouses, and families behind. Most of these tragedies begin with well-intentioned adults simply trying to live a normal, pain-free life. A heartbreaking study completed in 2018 compared the efficacy of using opioids to the use of over the counter NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) to reduce pain. The tragic results determined that the prescriptions and risk of opioid use produced no more benefit than over the counter NSAIDs like aspirin, Advil, Motrin, and Aleve.

Using opioids goes hand in hand with a myriad of risks and long-term harm. Doctors and patients often assume those risks in exchange for the immediate outcome of pain relief. New research determined that NSAIDs performed better than opioids for people with consistent chronic pain lasting more than six months. Treatment with opioids did not result in better pain-related function over a twelve-month period among patients with chronic back pain, hip pain, or knee osteoarthritis pain. Opioids also caused significantly more medication-related adverse symptoms than non-opioid medications.

The opioid drug and addiction epidemic plaguing America creates an intellectual revolution through necessity. People constantly seek education and treatment methods with less long-term risks and side effects. Few interventions produce more drug-free success stories than Chiropractic care. Chiropractic adjustments help alleviate pain and improve whole-body function by gently adjusting the spine to increase alignment and mobility. The initial step in reaping the benefits of Chiropractic comes from awareness of the range of long-term benefits which accompany the nervous system and spinal care.

Pressing a combination of the “control-alt-delete” buttons on a computer commonly resets and reboots a software system. That metaphor applies to the human nervous system each time a skilled Chiropractor administers an adjustment to the central nervous system. The reboot improves alignment, posture, mobility, coordination, and overall function. Better alignment and mobility also reduce pain and improve performance throughout the body.

Evidence-based research and clinical results continue to prove the value of Chiropractic care for people struggling with chronic pain. The first step towards long term relief comes from understanding the health potential which comes from regular Chiropractic care. Studies continue to prove that opioid use and addiction ruin lives and destroy families – usually among people who simply want to experience life without pain. Advances in pharmaceutical pain medications ultimately provide a worse solution than simply relying on basic over-the-counter NSAIDs. A better solution already exists in the form of healing the body and allowing the power within the body to resolve pain permanently. The opioid epidemic proves that the answer for pain and health does not come from a bottle of pills. Chiropractic care offers a path to optimal health by unlocking the healing potential within the body and central nervous system.

The post Opioid Drugs Proven Less Effective than NSAIDs for Pain Chiropractic Delivers Safe, Effective Drug Free Care first appeared on Chiropractor Broken Arrow.

The pain and suffering experienced by military personnel all over the world escalated to epidemic proportions long ago. The challenges of training, physical demands of duty, and the unique levels of stress experienced by most military men and women increase the likelihood of pain and other health challenges. No other profession deserves adequate attention and care for their health and bodies like the men and women of the military. Unfortunately, care for veterans ranks average at best. This leaves most members of the armed forces under-served or dependent on opioid medication which are manufactured to mask pain and the underlying sources of pain.

New research on opioid medication shows revolutionary evidence which supports the need for veterans to have greater access to Chiropractic.

Veterans make up one of the largest populations of people who seek relief from physical and emotional pain. The current care model prescribes powerful medications to the majority of veterans who seek care for their pain. When non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) fail to resolve the pain, doctors prescribe more addictive and potent drugs like opioids. A vast number of these veterans do not find relief from NSAIDs and begin consuming opioid medication. As a result, veterans exist as one of the most prevalent populations to be prescribed opioid medication at unprecedented levels.

Research published this year in the Journal of Pain Medicine provides promising evidence for veterans and their families.

The study showed that veterans who received Chiropractic care consumed less opioid medication than those who were not receiving chiropractic adjustments. Nearly one-third of veterans in the study who received Chiropractic services from the Veteran Affairs also received an opioid prescription. Yet the study revealed the frequency of opioid prescriptions became lower after the veterans began utilizing Chiropractic. Also, they are being prescribed opioids began to reduce their consumption after they began receiving Chiropractic care.

Chiropractic does not seek to treat ailments, pain, or conditions.

Chiropractors focus on restoring the relationship between the spine and the central nervous system. This is achieved by specifically assessing and gently adjusting areas of stress and dysfunction in the spine. Because of the intimate connection between the spine and the nervous system, pain and other conditions improve through better nervous system balance. Chiropractic care provides a unique advantage for veterans seeking help with pain, stress, and dysfunction. This study provides further evidence that veterans represent another group that deserves the benefits of Chiropractic. Long term health and healing do not involve a relationship with opioid medication and other pain relievers. Military personnel deserve the freedom to live an active life that is full of potential. That journey begins with Chiropractic.

The post Research Determines Chiropractic Care Provides Military Personnel Relief from Both Pain and Opioid Consumption first appeared on Chiropractor Broken Arrow.
